APR Review Course Scheduled for 2008

In an effort to increase the number of MPRC members taking the APR Accreditation Exam, the Council has scheduled its second season of a streamlined review process aimed at supporting the requirements of the new examination, which was introduced in 2003.

The APR exam consists of two stages:
  • A Readiness Review -- which includes:
    • A written submission (based on previous experiences and portfolio samples)
    • A personal interview (in which you present your portfolio and answer questions posed by a panel of 3 current APRs)
  • A Computer-based Examination, consisting of multiple choice questions, which is administered at a professional testing center

Our review process is geared directly to ensuring Maine candidates are ready for each stage of the process, and is being scheduled to accommodate candidates’ busy lives.

The Review Course is scheduled on three Saturdays, and will provide the support and guidance a candidate needs to prepare for and pass the exam:
1. GROUP REVIEW SESSION
  • An overview of what needs to be included in the written submission and how to prepare for the oral presentation
2. GROUP REVIEW SESSION
  • Candidate returns with a draft of his/her written submission for review
  • Candidate signs up to appear before the Review Panel
FORMAL REVIEW PANELS: June

INDEPENDENT STUDY: July-August. Candidates study independently or in groups

3. GROUP REVIEW SESSION: September
  • Final review session and mock exam for all candidates

CANDIDATES TAKE EXAM: September-October

Cost of the review session, which includes all handouts and materials, is: $75

The Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations fees are:
$25 application fee and $385 Examination fee.

Candidates have two options for payment.
  • $385: Single payment covering the full Examination fee; due at time of application. If you choose this option, the $25 application fee will be waived.
  • $410: Two payments of $205 covering the full Examination fee and $25 application fee; one due at time of application
