(Portland) - The Universal Accreditation Board of the Public Relations Society of America has awarded the designation "Accreditation in Public Relations" (APR) to the following members of the Maine Public Relations Council:

Giselle A. Auger, LARK Society for Chamber Music John R. Lamb, KeyBank Jill E. McDonald, Eastern Maine Medical Center Gail N. Rice, Central Maine Power Company Elizabeth Sutherland, Eastern Maine Medical Center

The Universal Accreditation Program seeks to improve the practice of public relations by awarding the APR designation to public relations professionals who successfully complete an examination that measures knowledge, experience and professional judgment. The Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations is administered twice yearly throughout the nation.

There are currently 19 professionals in Maine who hold the APR designation. "The number of public relations professionals in Maine that have achieved this accreditation continues to grow. It not only adds credibility to our profession but also demonstrates the commitment that Maine public relations professionals have to higher learning," said Jon Paradise, President of the Maine Public Relations Council.

Accreditation is a voluntary certification program for public relations professionals who have at least five years of paid, full-time experience in the professional practice of public relations, or in the teaching or administration of public relations courses in an accredited college or university.

The Maine Public Relations Council is Maine's largest professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the public relations, communications and/or related fields. For information on becoming a member, visit www.meprcouncil.org
